Melanie Macilwain
Melanie is a self taught artist originating from Victoria who has taught Visual Arts to primary and secondary school children for 10 years. Her art is a nod to her immigrant grandparents who made use of hard work by creating detailed woodwork and exploring the gifts of gardening with cooking and baking.
‘I have grown up not knowing I have a confidence in practicing art, purely due to upbringing. On reflection I have realised just how powerful being around creativity can be. I enjoy the rewards of a good day, the uppercut of feeling like you’ve never painted before, the electricity of when it pours out of your limbs and the not knowing when I turn up to canvas, again and again. Frank Sinatra playing in the background also helps.’
